Before and After a COVID Vaccine: How Would Jesus “Mask?”

Jesus was no dumb bunny. (Neither were Mohammed, Buddha, Lakshmi, Eltheldreda, Hestia, et al.) As an adult, Jesus had access to the infinite knowledge of the universe. While in human form, we can put our money on Him having been a caring, considerate member of society. So, if He were to be on earth during a rampant viral epidemic with health experts giving sound evidential-based advice, would He have changed His behavior?

Move over, “WWJD.”

Today’s question is HWJM (How Would Jesus Mask?)

Jesus as a Human in 2020

Being God incarnated into a body is probably not the easiest gig.

You’re omniscient, but you’re simultaneously a human. I can’t imagine how He balanced out that yin/yang. Every historical record indicates His human intelligence was not below average. So, the scenario we’ve got is an eternal omni-compassionate dude with higher than average smarts hearing that a dangerous, highly contagious germ is spreading like crazy from respiratory emissions.

What would Jesus do in this situation?

Certainly . . .

One thing for sure is that the Lord God Almighty’s Holy Son would not be walking around letting His exhalations get on other people. No way.

He was not an inconsiderate jerk who would whine about His looks with a mask, or fuss about how wearing a face mask feels too hot or too weird. No. He and Mama Mary wouldn’t even think about becoming the cause of someone else’s getting the disease.

They followed the laws of Judaism which included many hygiene practices to maintain the health of their own bodies, and the health of their family and their community. If a COVID-19 sort of threat raced through their world, Jesus and Mary absolutely, positively would have followed instructions to prevent being carriers and spreaders of a deadly epidemic.

Also for Certain

Since Jesus Christ was fine-to-superior in the intelligence department, He would understand that exhalation droplets come from both

1. Your nose, and
2. Your mouth.

So, He’d be totally down with knowing that both those body parts must be covered when He was near others.

He also knew that humans don’t breathe through gills. (Would someone please explain this to the folks living in the middle of the United States?) Thus, wearing a face mask on the neck under the chin, the big J.C. would know, is stupid and dangerous to others.

Enter the COVID-19 Vaccines

In the last weeks of December 2020, hope arises that a two-dose vaccine will help fight this pandemic illness. It is not known for how long the therapeutic effects will last. No one is claiming a lifetime immunity. It also seems that the vaccine prevents the individual from suffering serious symptoms from the virus, BUT the person can still be a transmitter of infection.
